Biography

Abby Coffin serves as Assistant Vice Provost of Academic Success within Academic Affairs. In this role, Abby leads the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs, Jayhawk Academic Advising and the University Career Center. The Center for Orientation and Transition Programs is responsible for the orientation and onboarding of all new domestic first-year and transfer students as well as students in KU’s Jayhawk Global programs. Beyond orientation, this office provides transition programs including Hawk Week, Winter Welcome, and other programs designed to help first-year students find their community and make KU their home. Jayhawk Academic Advising is responsible for providing holistic student support and academic advising to all undergraduate students and graduate students in select programs at the University of Kansas.  The University Career Center provides meaningful career services through the KU Pathways, programming and other holistics career support tools.

Abby earned a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from the University of Kansas in 2018. Her dissertation is titled Implementing Academic Analytics and the Impact to Academic Advising, and her research interests include undergraduate student retention, academic advising, and the role and development of professional academic advisors. Abby holds a Master of Public Administration from KU and a Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture from MidAmerica Nazarene University. Her career has been dedicated to roles designed to build and implement programs or directly support student success. She has been at the University of Kansas since 2005.
